Breaking News - May 12th 2008:
Vancouver Sun
Published: Monday, May 12, 2008
Efforts to combat Chron's Disease in children received a $12 million grant from the B.C. government Monday.
The money was given to the Children with Intestinal and Liver Disorders (CH.I.L.D.) Foundation to find a cure for children with intestinal and liver disorders such as Crohn's Disease, the province announced in a press release.
One project is aimed at combatting Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD).
Dubbed the C.H.I.L.D. National I.B.D. Research Collaborative, it will connect healthcare professionals, researchers, hospitals, funding agencies and families from across the country with a focus on finding a cure for Crohn's Disease.
Children with Inflammatory Bowel Diseases suffer unpredictable inflammation and ulceration causing excruciating pain, bloody diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, weight loss or gain, chronic fatigue, and anaemia. These children are often confined to their homes, miss a great deal of school and often cannot participate in sports.
The National I.B.D. Research Network will allow researchers in different geographic locations to work together in teams, which could lead to an international effort led by Canada to defeat Crohn's Disease, the press release said. It will be the first time since SARS that a nation-wide collaborative effort in Canada has been undertaken to target one disease, the release said.

It is with great pleasure that we announce David Hall is the primary runner for the Run for Crohns, to be held in 2009. David finds this to be of large significance in his life. Hall came to the group during the last month looking for a cause to run for that he could truly believe in and make a difference. It was then Hall had asked if he could run for Crohns. Together Hall and our team have come up with the Run for Crohn's.
